POLITICO’S Research & Analysis Division (PRAD) is a unit within Politico Europe that provides deep, evidence-based reports and data-driven insights on complex EU policy issues. To organize and differentiate report categories, I developed a patterning system. Each policy area is divided into eight sub-categories relating to the topic of the report. I assigned a specific pattern to each policy area, and then assigned a color to each of the eight sub-categories. The patterns then adapt to fit the color & policy area combination of each report. The goal of this patterning system was to create something organized and intentional, that would offer long-term variety without feeling like patterns were overused or in short supply.
